Chicago Façade and Unit

  • Part of a student exhibition, Spring 2009

Project Brief
Sharing ties with the ‘Powers of Ten’ project by Charles and Ray Eames, this project focuses on the macro scale of façade treatment and micro scale of apartment units. One unit and façade were made to enforce the idea of modularity. The resulting design was to be placed inside a void seen from the Chicago Loop.

Project Description
In order to understand a façade you need to consider its impact at multiple scales. Through this you will see how the façade has social context and human scale. Inspiration came from viewing a feather under a microscope. The resulting façade was studied at both small scales and at a large scale.
