New York Film Institute

A vacant lot in New York is to be developed as an artist residency. The facility must house studio spaces, temporary and permanent living quarters, and their supporting spaces, while still maintaining a commercial presence on the ground level.

The building's large program pushed the overall height past the surrounding buildings. On the rooftop an opportunity arose to project film on a neighboring building's façade. Beyond the projection frame, the city unfolds, becoming a backdrop with views to Lower Manhattan.
